Summary

The organisation of a designated surgery or clinic. The location of the clinical duties may be varied according to the needs of the service. To keep accurate and clear contemporaneous written records on each patient outlining the clinical treatment performed and any advice given Participation in school screening activities and identifying the dental needs of the people in the locality by participating in appropriate BASCD epidemiological surveys. Arranging other activities as required by the service including oral health promotion activities, organising schemes for the prevention of dental disease and screening of relevant groups within the population of South London (Merton, Sutton and Croydon). To work in collaboration with the oral health promotion team when required and to advise head teachers and other educational staff within the locality on Community Special Care Dentistry and oral health issues. To be responsible for, supervise and instruct dental nurses and other dental care professionals in their clinical duties whilst providing clinical care. To be responsible for supervising the dental nurse and to ensure that they perform the necessary duties in the dental surgery with regard to infection control and decontamination following the Infection Control Policy of the Department of Community Special Care Dentistry. To perform domiciliary visits to provide clinical oral healthcare for housebound and elderly patients with physical disabilities or mobility problems as required by the needs of the service. As part of the outreach teaching programme the post holder will be expected to assist in the training of dental therapy students, undergraduate dental students and other trainee dental care professionals in a clinical setting. To be responsible for the completion of clinical and administrative data required by the Department of Community Special Care Dentistry for contractual, research or audit purposes. To change and adapt professional duties at short notice as required by the needs of the Department. To work from more than one clinical base during the week as determined by the needs of the service
