Band 7 Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) – Emergency Department UCLH
Open to nurses, paramedics and physiotherapists.
FT/PT (not less than 30 hours a week) Substantive post.
You must hold a current qualification as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Care Practitioner and evidence of clinical practice and an independent practitioner in an ED/WIC/UTC type setting to be eligible to apply.
The Emergency Department at UCLH set out a clear workforce strategy for the next 3-5 years in 2019 which includes the development of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner workforce. Over the last three years we have developed an innovative training programme for our four current Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners (tACPs) led by our ED consultant nurse, Robert Pinate, supported by two Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) credentialed ACPs.
1. tACP’s already in training:
We believe we can now offer a unique opportunity to tACP’s who may have progressed through their academic programme but are looking for a post which will deliver a focussed and comprehensive programme of clinical development and support towards successful credentialing.
2. New entrant tACP’s or tACP’s part-way through training:
We are seeking to develop new aspiring tACP’s who meet the criteria below.

1. tACP’s already in training:
These posts are only open to practicing tACP’s in emergency care who:
• Have a minimum 5 years post registration with a minimum of 3 years emergency care experience
• Have already attained the minimum academic qualification of a PGDip at master’s level in advanced practice as set out in the RCEM curriculum. We can fully support you to complete your MSc dissertation module if this is still required.
• Have a current RCEM NHS e-Portfolio with documentary evidence of on-going development and attainment in a type 1 ED setting
2. New entrant tACP’s or tACP’s part-way through training:
We are seeking to develop new aspiring tACP’s who meet the following criteria:
• Have a minimum 5 years post registration with a minimum of 3 years emergency care experience.
• Eligible for entry onto an MSc programme: Normally applicants will have a Health-related honours degree (or international equivalent), with a classification of 2.2 or above, however applications from clinically experienced, senior level health professionals with evidence of a minimum of 90 undergraduate degree level credits (at least 15 credits of which has been completed within the past 2 years) will also be considered. LSBU, 2018.
• MUST have an Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Care Practitioner qualification and evidence of clinical practice. This is an essential pre-requisite for the posts.

RCEM launched its ACP curriculum in 2015; aspiring ACPs now have a clear and defined portfolio of practice to support their development and progress to credentialing by the RCEM.
What we can offer:
• Assigned consultant educational/clinical supervisor.
• Assigned RCEM Credentialed ACP clinical supervision and support.
• Structured approach on a roster basis to working in all areas of the department, Resus, Majors, Urgent Care and Paediatrics (for those trainees who care for children)
• Trust support to develop your procedural skills as set out in the curriculum.
• Clinical placements to support your clinical development and fulfil the requirements of the curriculum in:
o Acute Medicine
o Critical Care
o Anaesthetics
o Paediatrics – for those who care for children and wish to credential in paediatrics.
• 80/20 (clinical/non-clinical) role to ensure you have consistent non-clinical time to support non-clinical activity as required by the RCEM curriculum. Such as; audit, educational supervision meetings, attending governance meetings and development of new pathways of care
• Automatic upgrade to full Band 8a ACP on credentialing by the RCEM.
New entrants and tACP’s already in training must be available to work a minimum of 30 hours per-week (0.8 WTE). For new entrants, his is seen as a minimum requirement to progress successfully through a tough three-year programme.
