Equans is recruiting for an M&E Operative to be based on site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.
This is a permanent full-time role working 42 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
Please note this is a shift role - working 4 on 4 off between the hours of 9am - 9pm
What will you deliver?
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive preventative maintenance (RPM) tasks assigned through Maximo or other systems. Ensure work is signed off and completed efficiently, reporting any issues to the M&E Lead.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) and comply with Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring safety and protection for all employees.
- Use initiative to resolve non-routine problems independently, proposing options to improve task performance and addressing immediate challenges.
- Take ownership of allocated tasks, planning and organizing workloads to meet deadlines. Maintain clear communication with managers and report progress regularly.
- Actively pursue personal development opportunities while supporting colleagues' learning. Provide constructive feedback and contribute to achieving team and company objectives.
- Adapt to changing work priorities and deadlines while maintaining composure under pressure. Respond positively to changes in the work environment.
- Ensure tasks are completed to a high standard, observing the work through completion and correcting any errors.
- Work effectively with colleagues and managers, proactively reporting obstacles to work delivery and seeking input from others to improve work processes.
- Exercise sound judgment in knowing when to make decisions and when to escalate issues. Take responsibility for decisions and seek advice when necessary.
- Learn from experiences, make suggestions, and implement improvements to work processes, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to the highest quality standards.
- Think creatively to solve problems, seeking diverse perspectives from others to enhance the overall effectiveness of the team.

Who are we looking for?
- Level 2 qualification in a relevant mechanical/electrical trade is desirable.
- Significant demonstrable experience in a building services environment.
- Training or willingness to undertake training for CP roles in high-risk disciplines.
- Thorough understanding of relevant policies and procedures and adherence to RAMS and codes of safe working.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) requirements and duties.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and prioritize tasks.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances and work priorities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Due to the nature of the contract, successful postholder must be able to obtain and maintain a Disclosure Scotland to PVG Level.
