We campaign so that people who struggle to be heard are listened to by people who have the power to make a positive difference. We harness the real-life experience and expertise of our local service users and personnel to influence decision makers of all political persuasions on issues such as modern slavery, poverty, employment and homelessness.We are now looking for a Policy Analyst to join our team and take lead responsibility on issues around modern slavery and human trafficking. The Salvation Army holds the main UK Government contract for providing specialist support and care for adult survivors of modern slavery in England and Wales: this gives us a responsibility to ensure that survivors’ experiences are heard, and to speak out to protect and promote survivors’ rights in debates about policy.Key Responsibilities:You will lead The Salvation Army’s policy work on modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK, becoming a source of authoritative information and advice in this area, and working to influence and respond to political developments affecting it.To do this you will work closely alongside relevant colleagues in The Salvation Army, in particular our Anti Trafficking and Modern Slavery Services (ATMS). You will also proactively develop and maintain relationships with key sector colleagues and multi-agency stakeholders outside The Salvation Army.Working closely with Public Relations and Media colleagues, you will present our policy positions in a variety of ways to a wide range of audiences.To be successful in this post you will need:Good experience in a policy, public affairs or research role, or in relevant service delivery; and experience and understanding of working in politically, socially or individually sensitive contexts.Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex policy matters clearly and effectively.An ability to research, interpret and evaluate complex policies, legislation and emerging trends.A good understanding of the current political climate and what this means for The Salvation Army as an organisation, specific areas of our work, and people who use our services.To be able to familiarise yourself quickly with the key elements of new or unfamiliar areas of work, and to use data accurately to develop and support policy positions and arguments.To be able and willing to work within the Christian ethos and values of The Salvation Army.You may also have specific expertise and knowledge in the fields of modern slavery and people trafficking; experience of working directly with people who are vulnerable or otherwise excluded; and/or experience of conducting primary research.
