This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position, as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).
This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST
WCG is one of the largest FE colleges in the UK. We have seven centres offering a range of vocational subjects with over 20,000 enrolments. Animal related programmes are delivered at both our Land based Colleges (Moreton Morrell and Pershore). The Animal Welfare and Veterinary Nursing Department delivers courses to students ranging from Foundation Learning to BSc (Hons) Degree level.
Providing excellent animal care, and ensuring the highest standards of Animal Welfare is of paramount importance. To enable Animal Centre staff to perform their roles effectively and efficiently the Animal Technician will assist and support them in achieving this. This is an important post involving maintenance and technical support for the Animal Centre.
It offers opportunities for personal development and growing responsibilities within the Programme Area. The College expects flexibility in its staff, and the successful applicant may well be required to broaden their range of expertise as they develop in their job.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The post holder will be a member of the Animal Centre team and will be responsible to the Senior Instructor/Technician or their appointed representative.
Animal Centre Technicians are required to maintain animal welfare to the highest standard, completing all animal husbandry tasks and maintaining the working environment.

For the successful candidate a conditional offer of work will be made. Our offer of work will be conditional upon a number of mandatory pre-employment checks, to include but not limited to DBS, Barred List check, right to work check, internet search, TRA check (academic posts).
Essential Attainments:
✓Previous employment in an animal related organisation
✓Relevant Level 2 in an animal related qualification
✓Good levels of physical fitness to undertake manual labour and outdoor working
✓Flexible and adaptable in your approach to ensure the welfare of the animals is number one priority, and to changing situations regularly
✓Punctual and reliable with the ability to work at industry pace
✓Excellent levels of organisational, timekeeping, problem solving and communication.
Desirable Attainments:
✓Interest in progression within the education sector.
