About us

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our Governor Services team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team.

We are a successful and trusted self-financing council service and support school governors at their meetings in schools across the city (and day to day behind the scenes) providing advice, guidance and training. Our aim is to support them to be as effective as possible carrying out the three core functions of governance, ensuring that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined, that the Headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school and the sound, proper and effective use of the school's financial resources.

As a team we work to meet the needs of the governors and the schools via our flexible working scheme, which includes remote working and benefits us and our customers. This also helps us balance our work and personal commitments as governor meetings can take place outside of usual office hours.

About the Role

Within the role you will provide efficient governance advice, administrative and clerking support to school and academy boards for a variety of meetings from full governing board meetings, committee meetings to ad-hoc meetings which include parental complaint and pupil exclusion panel hearings. In preparation for meetings, you will be provided with all the available documentation in advance of the meeting, you will ensure meetings are quorate and are conducted in a proper and orderly manner.
While listening to discussions you will make notes and summarise salient points, you will prepare accurate minutes in a timely manner, ensuring all agreed decisions and actions are recorded accurately and objectively including indicating who is responsible for action and the timescale agreed. The role requires you to have your own transportation and the ability to work under your own initiative, to deadlines and without supervision.

About you

We are looking for someone who has previous experience in a similar role as well as up-to-date knowledge of the field. You will have strong basic English and Maths skills, be comfortable to learn and use a variety of IT systems and have working knowledge of packages such as Microsoft Outlook and Word. You will also possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to communicate clearly in writing, and verbally and have experience of working under pressure and to deadlines.

A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential. You will be self-motivated with a positive and professional attitude, be able to work flexible hours; often outside of normal office working times and have a strong commitment to delivering high quality services, equality and diversity. You will be able to handle confidential information with discretion.
