Crynodeb
To provide high-level clinical leadership and professional expertise within the Occupational Therapy service in line with legislation, national guidance, and the standards of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT). This role includes responsibility for the assessment and delivery of complex care interventions, as well as supervision, support, and development of junior staff. The postholder will also contribute to the development, performance, and professional standards of the wider Occupational Therapy team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Professional Assessments and Care Interventions
• Undertake advanced, person-centred Occupational Therapy assessments and complex clinical interventions for residents with varying needs, including physical, sensory, cognitive, and functional impairments.
• Develop and implement outcome-focused care and support plans that promote independence, choice, and well-being in line with the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
• Provide expert advice and interventions in relation to equipment provision, major adaptations, and housing solutions to meet eligible needs.
• Apply a strengths-based approach and evidence-based practice in decision-making.
• Ensure all interventions are recorded accurately and promptly in accordance with professional and local standards.
2. Staff Supervision and Professional Support
• Line manage and supervise Occupational Therapists and support staff as required, including oversight of caseloads, case discussions, performance, and development.
• Conduct regular supervision meetings, appraisals (PDRs), and support continuing professional development (CPD) in accordance with HCPC registration requirements.
• Mentor newly qualified staff and support pre-registration students on placement.
• Provide clinical guidance and complex case consultations to colleagues across the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ensure staff under your supervision adhere to professional codes of conduct and local safeguarding and risk management procedures.
3. Team Development and Service Performance
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Occupational Therapy service by sharing expertise, developing protocols, and participating in service planning.
• Support the implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs), audits, and outcome measurement tools to demonstrate service impact and effectiveness.
• Participate in quality assurance initiatives, service evaluations, and the development of innovative practices.
• Promote a culture of learning, reflection, and evidence-based practice within the team.
• Represent the OT service in inter-agency meetings and contribute to strategic initiatives relevant to the development of adult social care and health integration.
