Are you an enthusiastic and adaptable Psychology or Social Care student looking for a placement year? Do you want to make a difference in a rewarding, supportive environment? If so, we have a 12 month paid placement for you!
At the Homelessness Prevention Service, we provide practical support for those who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or threatened with homelessness by their current landlord. We work with service users to find alternative, suitable accommodation for themselves and their families.
About the role
A fast paced role where no two days are the same
As a Support Worker, you’ll work closely with a number of different organisations to help people maintain their tenancy or to seek more permanent accommodation. This could mean working with Social Care, Probation, other Housing providers and Private Landlords, Nottingham Priority Family's Team, Leaving Care Team and many other local organisations. You could be supporting a single person, families or older people and people who have experienced Domestic Abuse and Mental Health.
You will help remove barriers and support people to consider what options are available to them according to their individual situation, using person-centred approaches.
You’ll be managing your own caseload and offer vital face-to-face support or remotely via telephone and email. As well as liaising with other organisations who may also be supporting the citizen. You’ll have your service users best interests at heart; developing a bespoke support package and writing support plans.
There will be a requirement of supporting at temporary accommodation projects Corporation Oaks and Linby Drive when needed.
About you
Cool, calm and collected? Are you confident in a crisis?
You will be resilient, organised and motivated to help others whose own motivation may be suffering. You will not be afraid to confidently challenge some organisations when necessary and work collaboratively within a large team. The work can sometimes be fast-paced and you’ll need to respond calmly and confidently to crises when they arise.
How can you say no to this fulfilling Monday to Friday job!
Shifts start between 8:30am and 9:30am and finish between 4pm and 5pm for a great work life balance!
