New Forest District Council is continuing to invest and upgrade the Councils CCTV, Out of Hours service and Community Alarms facility resulting in the investment of a modern, purpose-built control room. The control room delivers a 24-hour service, including the councils out of hours service dealing with a vast array of public enquiries.
We are seeking to recruit an operator to join our team and assist with the monitoring of a network of over 120 cameras, a mixture between public space and asset based and the delivery of Community Alarm (Careline) connections to over 2000 clients.
Are you passionate about helping others and able to work under pressure?
The control room operates on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week. You will be required to survey multiple camera monitors, liaise with police and other services, and keep accurate records in compliance with a strict code of practice. You must be able to concentrate, especially during periods of intense activity, and have excellent observation skills. You will also be answering emergency lifeline calls, making decisions within guidelines, and taking the relevant action to deal with the call appropriately.
You should demonstrate the ability to work positively in a team setting, have very good verbal and written communication skills, be well presented, and have a professional and personable nature. The ability to work calmly and effectively when dealing with emergency situations, viewing of sensitive and emotionally distressing images, or dealing with vulnerable and concerned adults over the phone or in person forms a significant part of the role. A high level of IT skills is necessary as the work involves using the CCTV and Community Alarms software and equipment, as well as Microsoft Office.
Shift pattern: Part-time – example rota would be 2 x days (06:00 – 18:00) followed by 6 days off on an 8-day recurring pattern.
Alongside your core hours, there will be the opportunity to work additional hours covering annual leave and occasionally, sickness.
You must have a clean driver’s license and use of a car for carrying out home visits for which additional travel payments will be made.
Due to the highly sensitive and confidential nature of the work, you will undergo enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. Ability, aptitude and/or personality tests may be carried out as part of the selection process.
