Job Description – Early Years Practitioner

Purpose of Post

To have a high regard for the overarching aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to help children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes; to stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being.

To give support to other personnel within the nursery.

To implement policies and procedures in your daily routine.

Key Areas

To meet the individual needs of all the children.

To give a positive contribution to team work.

To work in Partnership with Parents and Professionals to best meet the individual needs of each child.

Duties and Responsibilities

To provide secure foundations for future learning through learning and development that is planned around the individual needs and interests of each child, and informed by the use of on-going observational assessment.

To have the highest regard for Safeguarding children and Child Protection, reporting any concerns immediately in line with the Whistleblowing Policy.

To build children’s resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British Values, enabling children to have a positive self-esteem and be able to challenge extremist views, in line with the Prevent Duty and EYFS – PSED Development.

Support all staff, working together as a team to ensure the smooth running of the nursery.

Liaise with and support parents and other family members, respecting the confidentiality of information received.

To attend all out of work activities, e.g., training, monthly staff meetings, parent’s evenings and Christmas parties, e.t.c.

To be flexible working within the practices of the nursery to ensure the smooth running of the provision. Be prepared to help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs, preparing meals and cleaning equipment and the environment.

To work alongside the manager and colleagues to ensure the company values are met, delivering the best education in a homely caring environment, in which internal and external customers are supported and respected.

To have high regard for the quality of the nursery profile and uphold its standards at all times.

Provide a stimulating environment which it extends children’s development and learning.

To provide all children, irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability, with the opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme of learning and development.

To work in a multi-disciplinary partnership with other professionals and parents to best meet the needs of a child in line with the Core Assessment Framework.
