Contract Type: Full-time - 35 hours week, Interim – 3 months with possible extension
Pay Rate: £238.38 per day - PAYE, including paid holiday and pension contributions

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior SEND Assessment and Review Officer (Tribunal/Compliance) to join our Inclusion, Learning & Achievement Service on an interim basis. This is a vital role, helping ensure that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the high-quality, legally compliant support they deserve.
Key Responsibilities:
Deputise for the Team Leader (Assessment & Review – Tribunal/Compliance) when required.
Lead the strategic and operational management of the Tribunal/Compliance team.
Represent the Local Authority at SENDIST Tribunal Hearings.
Ensure that all statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015) are fully met.
Work directly with providers and stakeholders to improve outcomes and reduce legal challenges.
Oversee and contribute to the development of aspirational, legally sound EHC plans.
Manage complex cases and provide support for looked-after children and those involved in YOS.
Supervise a small team of staff and support their professional development.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
In-depth knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015
Experience in SEN assessment and review processes within a local authority setting
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to lead complex casework
A collaborative, child-centered approach with the ability to manage conflict and provide support to families and professionals
Experience chairing complex meetings and presenting at panels and tribunals
Desirable:
Educated to degree level
Previous line management experience
Experience dealing with legal compliance issues in SEND
