Job Title: Waste and Recycling Driver/Team Lead
Purpose:
To ensure the efficient and high-standard collection of waste and recycling materials in line with operational procedures and health and safety guidelines.

Vehicle Operations:
-
Drive and take responsibility for the assigned waste collection vehicle.
-
Perform daily vehicle checks, basic routine maintenance (e.g., oil and water), and cleaning using the designated wash bay.
-
Safely transport goods, equipment, and personnel.
-
Assist with loading and unloading where necessary and complete all required documentation.
-
Collection Duties:
-
Follow scheduled collection routes and adapt when required due to unforeseen circumstances.
-
Ensure complete waste collection from designated streets/roads each day.
-
Load waste safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
-
Ensure assisted collections are completed as scheduled.
-
Update and maintain property collection records.
-
Reporting & Supervision:
-
Report any missed collections, accidents, damage, or near misses immediately.
-
Complete and submit all relevant paperwork daily to the supervisor.
-
Maintain tachograph records where applicable.
-
Supervise the crew and oversee vehicle operations.
-
Train and guide new or temporary staff as required.
-
Customer Service:
-
Provide excellent customer service in line with service standards.
-
Ensure bins/boxes are returned to their original locations and any spillage is cleaned.

Maintain respectful behavior and ensure the crew does the same.
-
Other Duties:
-
Operate vehicle machinery safely and as intended.
-
Identify and report personal training needs to your supervisor.
-
Be mindful of public safety, including pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
-
Be flexible with working hours, which may include weekends and bank holidays (additional pay applies).
Health & Safety Responsibilities:-
Comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and related regulations.

Take reasonable care for your safety and that of others.
-
Use all provided personal protective equipment appropriately.
-
Report hazards or risks to your manager immediately.
-
Follow all training and safety procedures in line with the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
Requirements:Essential:
-
Valid HGV licence.
-
Experience driving refuse/recycling vehicles.
-
Able to complete log sheets, tachograph records, and related paperwork.
-
Competent in using electronic ICT systems.
-
Experience with waste collection and recycling.
Desirable:
-
NVQ Level 2 in Waste Management or willingness to work towards it.
