Summary

Accountable to: Childcare Services Manager

Job Purpose

This position aims to work as a qualified childcare practitioner and key worker delivering childcare and education as part of ST Mary’s childcare team in our early years setting preschool under the guidance of the service manager and deputy/Early Years Teacher, with leadership opportunities.

St Mary’s provides children and community services to local residents out of St Mary's Neighbourhood Centre, and the childcare services are a key part of our growing work.

St Mary's Preschool is open from 09:00 to 16:00, 38 weeks per year, and our holiday childcare service is open 9 weeks of the school holidays, catering for 6 - 11-year-old children from 8.30 to 5 pm for families.

The term-time-only position requires 37.5 hours a week of childcare during each academic year. If you are willing to work in the holiday provision, additional hours are paid as overtime.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To provide a stimulating and happy environment where children can grow and learn through exploratory play experiences.
To actively encourage children’s learning and progress in all areas of development by interaction and extension of play activities
To work in partnership with the parents
To know and adhere to the preschool's operational and safety policies and procedures.
To assist the Early Years Teacher with the short, medium and long-term planning of the EYFS curriculum
Carry out and record children’s observations in accordance with the requirements of the EYFS framework and as instructed by the service manager/deputy.
To actively hold a key group of children, plan, observe and assess their needs as part of early intervention.
Participate in multi-agency meetings to monitor and evaluate the progress of Children.
Organise meetings with parents to share initial concerns and elaborate on the initial referrals to the SEN department where needed.
To participate in continuous professional development and training as required
To ensure that any information received concerning the children is kept confidential.
To assist with the daily setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment
To attend staff meetings. Undertake training and other events throughout the year.

Person Specification

Essential

Education

Early Years Practitioners with an NNEB/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
A-C GCSE Grades in English. Math is desirable.
Paediatric first aid qualification

Experience

Minimum 1 year of previous experience working as an Early Years Practitioner in an educational setting
Experience in curriculum planning according to the EYFS framework
Experience in assessing children's development and writing reports.
Experience in being a key worker for 2 and 3-year-olds and 3-4 years.
