A great opportunity has become available for an experienced HGV Technician with leadership experience to step into a Shift Chargehand position at a busy commercial vehicle workshop in Burton. You'll be supporting the day-to-day running of the shift while also remaining hands-on, ensuring all repairs and servicing work meets VOSA and company standards.
Key Responsibilities of a Shift Chargehand
• Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and trailers to a high standard
• Manage and lead the workshop team on your shift to ensure productivity and compliance
• Support the Branch Manager with shift organisation and workshop operations
• Liaise with the parts department and ensure timely repair processes
• Attend roadside breakdowns and support customer needs when required
• Ensure all compliance paperwork, job cards and service records are completed accurately
• Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety within the workshop
• Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment
• Attend ongoing training to keep up to date with vehicle technology and product knowledge
What We're Looking For
• Proven experience as an HGV Technician, ideally with previous Chargehand or supervisory experience
• NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
• IRTEC inspection licence (preferred)
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Good knowledge of health and safety practices in a workshop environment
• Current UK driving licence (HGV and ADR licences are a bonus)
• Confident with diagnostics, problem-solving and decision-making on the job
