Tyler Hill Consulting are currently looking for Head of Grid who will be responsible for business development of our newly set up ICP services business and ensure delivery of Independent Connection Provider (ICP) projects pipeline to energisation throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
This purpose of this role will be to work closely with our existing and future customers to identify, develop and secure new opportunities for demand and generation electricity connection projects primarily in the UK. This will involve both technical input and negotiation. You will manage commercial risks and secure financial commitment from our clients in order to meet the company sales targets.
As Head of Delivery, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and technical aspects of ICP projects which will include working with the design and engineering teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining the quality and integrity of technical documentation. You will establish and lead a team of project and construction management professionals/sub-contractors who will be responsible for the safe and high-quality construction of grid connection assets.
Responsibilities
Business Development:
o Identify and target potential clients/opportunities through market research, cold outreach, networking, and referrals. Qualify leads by understanding various client considerations, and decision-making processes. Maintain detailed records of leads, interactions, and opportunities in the CRM system.
o Conduct competitor analysis and market research to develop roadmap and sales strategy to secure new business.
o Conduct marketing campaigns and attend trade shows, job fairs etc. in order to increase company’s recognition.
o Stay current with ICP industry trends, policies, regulations and procedures, government incentives, and competitive offerings.
o Maintain and establishing relationships with industry bodies and network operators
Project Delivery:
o Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of a portfolio of grid connection projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
o Develop and review design documentation, including specifications, schematics, plans, and reports, to ensure accuracy and quality.
o Oversee compliance with regulatory and industry standards, including G99/G100, ENA, DNO, and relevant Health & Safety requirements.
o Demonstrate excellent knowledge of CDM 2015 requirements, with competence in establishing safe working practices
o Coordinate activities with local authorities, adhering to NRSWA and HAUC standards.
o Ensure continuous improvement of design processes, implementing best practices and industry advancements.
o Implement rigorous quality assurance and control processes to ensure all construction work meets or exceeds the technical specifications and industry standards. Conduct audits, address non-conformances, and ensure compliance with specifications.
o Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders on project progress, financial performance, and risk management
o Secure feedback and maintain positive client relationships.
o Establish and lead a team of project managers, project engineers, and construction management professionals, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
o Provide mentorship and development opportunities for junior engineers and design staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
Requirements
• 10+ years of experience in project delivery, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the electricity transmission/distribution or renewables sectors
• Expert knowledge and understanding of the ICP business, ICP processes and DNO/IDNO requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CCM) is a plus
• Demonstrated experience with the design, construction, management, and delivery of high-voltage electrical connections, substations, and associated infrastructure with a focus on safety, timelines, quality, and cost
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Strong knowledge of UK regulatory and industry standards for electrical connections (G99, G100, ENA, and DNO requirements).
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Power Systems Analysis tools) and experience with design documentation management.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
• Experience with hybrid working environments and the flexibility to travel for project site visits when required.
• Strong commercial acumen, with experience in budget management and contract management.
