Summary


This is an exciting opportunity to join the Macmillan Psycho-oncology team at LNWHT. This post holder will work alongside the Macmillan Consultant and Senior Psychologists.

The post holder will contribute to several key projects, including patient/staff consultation surveys, service audit and review. They will also provide administrative support to the Psychology service, take responsibility for managing triage and information gathering for new referrals, and manage patient records, activity recording and database.

Under supervision from the qualified psychologists there will be opportunities to assist in the provision of clinical care of patients. depending on need, this may take the form of psycho-education, group work and administering outcome measures.

We are confident that the post holder will gain valuable experience to contribute to a career in clinical psychology. The post holder will also have opportunities to be part of London support network of assistants in cancer and palliative care.

The Macmillan Psycho-oncology Service (MPoS), operates within a model of stepped care and is therefore well integrated into the wider staff team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Specifically, the post holder will:
• Take responsibility for clinically related administration, managing patient records, databases and activity recording, collection of statistics, development and conduct of audit and/or research projects, teaching and other activities related to clinical governance.
• As required, work within professional guidelines and under the direct supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist to deliver, support and enhance the psychological care of patients and their significant others within Cancer and Palliative Care services.
• Contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe and informed environment.

Beyond Cancer Services, MPoS is part of the wider LNWH Psychological Services Network (PSN) that brings together psychological specialists from across the Trust. The role includes participation in the service development and support activities of PSN.

LNWH provides cancer services to the London boroughs of Harrow, Brent and Ealing across three hospital sites, Northwick Park, Central Middlesex (including St Mark’s Hospital), and Ealing Hospital. The Trust provides surgical and chemotherapy services, including specialist treatment for Head and Neck and Complex Colorectal Cancer under St Marks Hospital. We have close links with the local and regional cancer centres for radiotherapy and other specialist services
