The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and competent Staff Nurse to join our core nursing team.
This role is for 37.5 hours per week, worked over 4 days for a fixed term initially of 12 months. IPU is open 07:30-19:30 Monday to Friday, so this is a great opportunity to achieve an excellent work-life balance whilst joining a dynamic nurse-led service.

• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing a diverse range of day case procedures
• Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs and standards of the department.
• To effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote a positive working partnership across all IPU services.
• To act as a preceptor/mentor/clinical supervisor for junior staff and students.
• Ensure that all prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly and in accordance with Trust policy, including the correct care and custody of controlled drugs.
• Rotate onto the day of surgery admissions unit.
• Rotate into the endoscopy unit.
• Rotate into the nurse lead dressings clinics.
• Escalate concerns in a patient's condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff
• To participate in clinical audit.
• To maintain full compliance with all essential training and clinical skills competencies.
• To identify areas for self-development and training within the Performance Planning and Development Review structure.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

Duties and Responsibilities
• To participate as a member of the IPU core nursing team with knowledge in the care of the patients on the unit.
• To demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to the development of evidence-based practice.
• To competently care for the patient including the assessment, planning and evaluation of programs of care.
• Liaise and integrate with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care and promote a team approach to working.
• Develop good working relationships and promote effective communication between all clinical grades of staff within the multi-disciplinary IPU team.

• To monitor the progress of learners and in particular their skills in carrying out practical procedures.

• Ensure safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
• Communicate using a range of methods to ensure a caring, sensitive andempatheticmannertopatientsandtheirrelatives.

• To participate as a member of the IPU team with knowledge in the care of the patients on the unit.

• Support patient and public involvement activities in the IPU and DOSA area as appropriate, leading to service improvement

• Assist the Matron to maintain IPU budgets and assist in cost saving projects
• Comply with best practice in the safe use of equipment by self and other members of the team, i.e. trainees / medical and nursing staff
