We are currently seeking a highly motivated, individual to join a busy team of dynamic dedicated Day Surgery Nurses.

The Day Surgery nurses provide pre and post operative care for Day case patients in an oncology setting, undergoing both general and local anaesthetic procedures. They also prepare a high turnover of patients for more major surgery.

The Unit also provides a pre-assessment service to assess Day Surgery patients for surgical procedures which include specialty areas such breast, urology, plastics, gynaecology, head and neck.

It is essential that the candidate is able to work using their own initiative, and to be able to work well as part of a team. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, to work under pressure and be able to provide to a high standard of care.

You must be flexible in your approach have excellent communication skills and have management experience.

A flexible approach regarding the working hours is essential as the days/hours you will be required to work during the week can vary.

Pre-assessment experience is desirable, training will be offered to the right individual.

You will need to have recent general surgical/Day Surgery experience. Evidence of continuing professional development will be required.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, motivated, and dynamic nurse to join our Day Surgery/Surgical Admissions and Pre-assessment service.
We also care for patient undergoing interventional radiology procedures. All surgical admissions, both in- patient stay and day cases are admitted for surgery through the unit. We also provide a pre-assessment service for patient undergoing day surgery.
The post holder will be required to take charge of a shift. They must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team and deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. You will also take responsibility for the development of a team of employees under the supervision of the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse
The environment is challenging, exciting and supportive, and facilitates the development of specialized skills. You will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled and motivated team that includes nurses, anaesthetists, and HCAs. You will be provided with a supernumerary period working alongside with senior members of the day surgery, pre-assessment and anaesthetic teams. You will be given the opportunity to apply for relevant courses within the Royal Marsden School of Nursing. After a training period, the successful candidate is expected to work independently and to manage his/her own caseload in collaboration with day surgery pre-assessment sister.
The unit currently provides a service Monday to Friday.

2.1. Develop and apply clinical leadership skills and maintain credibility through practice and professional
update.
2.2. Manage caseloads of patients in accordance to agreed protocols and guidelines, seeking advice from
other members of the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
2.3. Work closely with unit’s Manager and anaesthetists to develop skills in performing health assessment
of patients, including obtaining the history; conducting the physical examination and assessment of
psychological well- being.
2.4. Order, interpret blood tests and initiate appropriate action as required.
2.5. Order and follow up investigations as a result of clinical assessment process
2.6. Make onward referrals and follow up referrals to the other specialists/primary care.
2.7. Maintain own clinical skills including venepuncture and cannulation to give care to patients.
2.8. Assist in the development of the Admissions and Pre-assessment Service including research, audit and
clinical development of the pre-assessment service.
2.9. Act as co-ordinator to streamline communication of results/investigations by nature of having regular
presence within the unit within working hours.
