We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Herder to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and guiding livestock, ensuring their safety and well-being while maintaining efficient herd movements. This role is crucial in supporting the overall operations of our agricultural practices ,trustworthy herdsman for a dairy farm in Wales not far from beautiful town Llanfyrnach.
About the farm:
We are a modern family-run dairy and beef farm, working 165 acres of pasture.
Our farm has:
• 80 dairy cows (calving all year round)
• 20-40 replacement heifers
• Up to 100 beef cattle
• We make our own silage
• Milking is done on a modern Dairy Master 10/20 swing-over unit with automatic removal of milking cups and individual feeders
About the vacancy:
We are looking for a reliable and experienced cattle care specialist for daily work on a dairy and beef farm.
Duties include:
• Milking, herd care and feeding
• Pasture and young stock management
• Farm management when no other staff are available
• Working as part of a friendly and supportive family team
Our ideal candidate:
• Dairy farm experience desirable
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• A valid driving licence is essential
• Interest in animal husbandry and animal welfare
What we offer:
• Accommodation can be provided to suitable candidates
• On-site training and formal training if required
• Flexible working hours and holidays
Responsibilities:
• Milking, feeding, cleaning and bedding dairy cows
• Feeding and bedding young stock and beef cattle
• Daily tractor operation • General farm work including calf tagging, dehorning, assisting with vet visits
Working hours:
• Milking and farm work: 4:15 am – 9:00 am 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
• Schedule: 5.5 days a week
• Additional hours are possible during periods of silage making and other important work
We offer good working conditions, with good rates of pay and flexible shift patterns.
