Session Co-ordinator

Purpose

As one of the two Butterflies Haven Session Co-ordinators you will be joining Butterflies Haven at an exciting time of growth and development for the charity. We are building on strong foundations, and our plans for the future are being developed by a passionate group of staff, volunteers and trustees.

As part of a team of 2 Session Co-ordinators, supported by a small team of volunteers, you will be joining us at a time of change, as we look to maximise our impact on the local community and continue to facilitate and deliver the regular Butterflies Haven sessions to a high standard. As part of Butterflies Haven, you will be crucial in continuing our ethos of supporting children and young people, and their families as well as being an important part of our team. Butterflies Haven is a charity based in Keynsham between Bristol and Bath. We have created a caring community that offers support and social opportunities for children, young people and their families who are living with Autism or any developmental delay, whether diagnosed or not.

Key Information

Location: Keynsham

Status: Permanent

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Hours: 8 hours per week, 40/41 weeks per year (to include two weeks in the summer holidays). Sessions are delivered on Monday and Friday evenings, with occasional sessions on Tuesday evenings


The Role

You will

Jointly facilitate and deliver a successful programme of weekly sessions for young people aged 4-18.

Develop positive, professional relationships with young people and identify their individual social and informal educational needs.

Develop positive relationships with volunteers, identifying appropriate roles and tasks to delegate to volunteers.

Work with the second Session Co-ordinator to prepare for sessions, including setting up, packing away and cleaning up.

Have a duty of care and responsibility for the safeguarding of and welfare of young people attending the sessions.

Have a duty of care and responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of our sessional volunteers.

Provide guidance and support to volunteers assisting with sessions.

Attend fund raising events outside of regular sessions times as and when required.

Ensure any volunteer issues are reported to the relevant members of the Butterflies Haven team

Report any safeguarding / child protection issues to the Designated Safeguarding Officer.

Carry out health and safety checks before sessions commence, reporting any concerns to the Chair of Trustees and Administrator

Meet with parents as required to address any concerns

Act as an ambassador for the charity



About You

Ability to develop and sustain strong, effective working relationships with your team members.

Experience of working with young people and an enthusiasm for supporting personal growth and development.

A strong ability to form and sustain positive relationships with young people and effectively communicate with them and their parents or carers.

An understanding of the opportunities and challenges young people face when living with autism or developmental delay.

A non-discriminatory approach to working with young people and their parents or carers. Including those with protected characteristics.

A commitment to fostering diversity and promoting equality of opportunity among young people.

A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection within the context of youth work. A qualification in this area, or a commitment to obtaining one is desirable.

Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.

Experience of working with young people with challenging behaviours is desirable
