Summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Evening and Weekend Manager to join our team and take charge of store operations during peak periods in a busy grocery retail environment. This vital leadership role involves managing the store during evenings and weekends, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient stock control, and consistent delivery of high operational standards. The ideal candidate will be confident in making quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced setting and will have a strong background in retail—particularly grocery or food retail—combined with proven experience in customer service and team supervision.
As Evening and Weekend Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily running of the store, supervising staff across all departments including fresh, chilled, ambient, and checkout operations. You will lead by example to maintain store presentation, merchandising, and cleanliness to the highest standards. You’ll ensure stock availability and accurate pricing, manage replenishment processes, and implement health and food safety practices in line with company and legal guidelines. You’ll also play a key role in training, coaching, and motivating your team to hit sales targets and deliver a friendly, efficient service to our customers.
You’ll need to be commercially aware, comfortable managing store KPIs, and confident using retail systems to analyse sales trends, control wastage, and manage labour budgets effectively. You will also be expected to deal professionally with customer queries and complaints, resolve staffing issues, and escalate operational concerns when necessary.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year’s experience in a customer-facing retail role, with previous experience in a grocery or supermarket environment being highly desirable. Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills are essential, along with basic IT and numerical skills. A-level qualifications are preferred. This is a full-time, flexible position of 37.5 hours per week, focused on evening and weekend coverage, offering a competitive annual salary of £39,000. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of a well-established grocery store while advancing your retail management career.
