A Vacancy at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This post is ideal for a doctor with MRCP seeking to establish a career in any of the medical specialties who is either between core medical and higher training and wants a career break, or a higher specialist trainee as an Out of Programme for Experience who has an interest in Medical Education. The post is also of interest for trainees pursuing a career path in Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care or Acute Medicine where there is the opportunity to build up experience in respiratory conditions and the use of Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV).

ACUTE RESPIRATORY CARE UNIT - 2.5 days

As part of this role, you will be spending 2.5 days of the week on the ARCU at QMC Campus. This is a great opportunity to balance your teaching responsibilities with a very varied and well supported clinical role.

The unit takes level 1 and 2 patients with a range of respiratory and other medical conditions, including supporting those with respiratory failure who require non-invasive ventilation. Please note the unit cares for patients who have Covid infection (including the use of NIV and high flow oxygen) and you will be expected to manage these patients although full PPE is provided.

You will also review and discuss possible admissions to the unit from ED, the wards and step-downs from Intensive Care. ARCU hosts a consultant of the week who often has a background in Respiratory Medicine or Critical Care, so this is a perfect opportunity for any medical trainee to gain more experience in these areas prior to commencement of ST3 training.

TEACHING - UNDERGRADUTE MEDICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (UMED) – 2.5 DAYS

The post not only involves teaching opportunities but the chance to build your CV when applying for a training number or for any future post. It offers the chance to undertake a higher degree, via the Masters in Medical Education, present at local, regional, national conferences and research innovative ideas in medical education.
