This is a full time 10PA substantive consultant position in Breast Surgery at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. The postholder will be expected to provide a comprehensive service for patients with breast disease, and Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery skills are essential. Close collaboration with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team is required, including regular and full participation in the weekly Multidisciplinary Meetings.



The postholder will be expected to develop effective working relationships with the Breast Unit management team and the Clinical and Network Director. The postholder will also be responsible for the supervision and training of junior medical staff within the department, as well as non-medical personnel as appropriate.

The postholder will be required as a minimum to meet the requirements of the GMC, their Royal College and the Association of Breast Surgery in respect of revalidation and continuing professional development and will be expected to contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activities locally, nationally and internationally. Annual appraisal and job planning are required by the Trust, along with the production and maintenance of a Personal Development Plan in agreement with the Clinical Lead or Deputy.



It is anticipated that the postholder will collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to further the research interests of the team and individual research interests will be particularly encouraged.

The postholder will be expected to carry out audit and other related Clinical Governance activities as required by the Trust, Royal Colleges and the Association of Breast Surgery.



This includes attendance at the monthly unit audit meetings. They will participate fully in the preparation for and representation of the unit at peer review and quality assurance site visits.



This job is predominantly based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital however there is a one stop clinic at Newham Hospital. There may be a requirement to work at other sites as the breast services are networked. In situation adequate provision for travel will be included.



There is currently no General Surgery on-call commitment within this post
