Key Duties: To act (or work toward qualification) as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) supporting the Radiotherapy department. To take a lead responsibility for the calibration of imaging equipment within the department (e.g. CT Simulator, Varian OBI, Cyberknife imaging) and development of the appropriate policies and protocols. Perform and advise on dosimetry measurements on patients. Provide complex advice to clinical staff and support developments in in-vivo dosimetry and imaging. Undertake, where competent, routine quality assurance for departmental treatment, imaging and dosimetry equipment. Assist in the maintenance of equipment calibration and dosimetric calibration chain. Interact with engineers, manufacturers and third-party suppliers to assess equipment status, fault reporting and new equipment development. Create or review and approve treatment plans, dose calculations, immobilisation devices, shielding, dosimetry measurements and quality assurance records produced by other members of staff, as needed. Undertake the independent second check of radiotherapy treatment plans. Support departmental training, dissemination of knowledge and contribution to wider research and publication.
