1. Use extensive technical knowledge to decipher clinical notes and produce accurately coded clinical data by assigning industry recognised codes such as ICD-10 and OPCS-4, integrated with the Patient Administration System (PAS), for every inpatient and day case admission in a timely and efficient manner. 2. Collaborate with Medical Consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure information accuracy and encourage continuing data quality improvement to guarantee adherence to national guidelines. Bring together working groups amongst clinical and non-clinical colleagues to address changes and share best practice. 3. Provide accurate and timely coded data for use in financial planning, including private patient activity claims from insurers and for strategic level budget setting to ensure public health services achieve value for money. 4. Take a pro-active approach to continuous professional development and training to ensure compliance and efficient processes are delivered. Contribute to training of new team members and healthcare professionals across HCS to enhance working knowledge of clinical coding. 5. Keep up to date with compliance and best practice from external bodies (e.g. Institute for Health Record and Information Management (IHRIM), National Health Service (NHS), Jersey Care Commission (JCC)) in relation to developments in patient diagnoses, conditions and interventions. Communicate changes to stakeholders throughout HCS including impact analysis to ensure timely and accurate data is available. 6. Deal with general queries from operational and clinical teams, respond to ad hoc requests in a timely and accurate manner and escalate to senior colleagues where appropriate. The outcome will be improved data quality compliance and a service which is valued by stakeholders, enabling them to record and use clinical information in an accurate and efficient manner. 7. Utilise evaluation and innovation skills to participate in any development or enhancements of the computerised Patient Administration System (PAS) and additional specialised software applications to ensure the requirements of the department and wider organisation continue to be met. 8. Carry out periodic audits of patient data and cross-audit other members of the clinical coding team to ensure accuracy and compliance of clinical data. Report and rectify any breaches of the information governance policy. 9. Liaise with and provide support to stakeholders across HCS and Government including Quality and Safety, Informatics, Information Governance, Clinical Leads, Public Health, and HCS Executives to ensure demand for coded data is anticipated and appropriate plans are created to meet deadlines. Prioritise own work load to ensure own KPIs are met with technical accuracy in line with national standards and local policies to ensure GoJ delivers on statutory, regulatory, and financial commitments.
