Crynodeb

The current post is split 60% (3 days) and 40% (2 days) to fulfil two roles: i) a research partnership with Sport Wales Institute, and ii) a wider research development role within applied psychology at University of South Wales. Each role is described below but will form 1 full time Senior Research Assistant post.

The first part of the role will support a collaborative partnership between University of South Wales (USW) and Sport Wales Institute (SWI), working for the Welsh Institute of Performance Science (WIPS). WIPS was launched in 2016 to promote, facilitate and conduct multidisciplinary research on behalf of SWI. Specifically, we work closely with SWI staff in Athlete Development, Health and Wellbeing, and Athlete Environments, to answer high-performance questions. In doing so, WIPS aims to support the short- and long-term development and performance of athletes across Wales. WIPS also strives to secure research funding from International Governing Bodies and European research funding councils to ensure a sustained approach to research. (https://www.swansea.ac.uk/sports-science/astem/wips/areas-expertise/).

Alongside the role with WIPS, USW are seeking a Senior Research Assistant to support the general research activities of the Research and Innovation group in Applied Psychology (AP-RIG). This part of the role is positioned to support research across all themes within the AP-RIG, but with an emphasis on sport psychology and coaching science.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a hybrid-model of working, which will include working remotely, at USW, and at Sport Wales Institute (Sofia Gardens, Cardiff) to facilitate the timely completion of research projects. They should also expect to travel to other locations to meet sport representatives as the need occurs and at times dictated by the nature of elite sport environments.

For an informal conversation about this post please contact Prof David Shearer (David.shearer@southwales.ac.uk)

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the USW (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
