The Opportunity:
The Diabetes Medical Informatics and Epidemiology (DMI&E) research group, led by Prof. Helen Colhoun in the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC), is in search of a full-time Database Support Analyst. The group conduct and facilitate research into diabetes and its complications using extensive electronic health care linked data sets including bioresources. Our analytics team comprises machine learning specialists, biostatisticians and epidemiologists. We have a reputation for excellence and many international collaborators. We are seeking a person with proven programming and data handling skills to provide a link between the source of our raw data and the analytics team. The role will involve assisting the Data Warehouse Manager and the Software and Database Engineer/Developer to develop and maintain the data extraction and cleaning layers, and maintain data metadata and the associated content management system for the large research datasets of the Diabetes Informatics and Epidemiology team at IGC. This post is a full-time position for 1 year, and will be based solely within the Institute of Genetics and Cancer as the requirements and scope of the role necessitate in-person collaboration and engagement. We will only consider remote work arrangements in exceptional circumstances.
Your skills and attributes for success:
A degree or an extensive experience in medical informatics, computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics or statistics.
Experience in handling large complex datasets.
Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly.
Clear understanding of the importance of well-structured metadata.
Familiarity with the Linux environment.
