Background: The UK Space Agency:

The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.

Space is a part of everyday life. Satellites underpin our national economy, from agriculture and banking to aviation and shipping, and support our national security. Space science provides critical data to understand and address global challenges such as climate change, while missions to explore our solar system unite nations and advance humanity’s horizons.

We support a thriving space sector in the UK, which generates an annual income of £18.9 billion and employs 52,028 people across the country.

Through our portfolio of programmes and projects, we encourage the development of national space capabilities and are an early-stage investor in space research and development. We also promote the UK space sector’s interests and achievements; make connections to join up industry and academia; and represent the UK in international space programmes.

We have a powerful global voice, partnering with institutions across the world, including the European Space Agency.

The Unlocking Space for Government (USG) programme is a UK Space Agency strategic initiative aimed at harnessing the UK’s space-enabled capabilities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of UK government services. It seeks to improve the delivery of public services, ranging from environmental monitoring, urban planning, healthcare, and disaster management, while also strengthening the UK's position as a leader in space technology for applications that create positive social, environmental, and economic impact.

The programme will implement a number of end-user driven initiatives that will identify the ‘market access pathway’ for public sector use cases and address the accelerators and blockers along this pathway to enable the translation of research and cutting edge technology into products and actionable insights that can be adopted by the public sector.

Two initial end-user sectors have been prioritised to maximise the effectiveness of interventions: transport and healthcare. These posts will be instrumental in designing and delivering targeted interventions, standing up successful projects as they start to deliver and engaging closely with a wide range of stakeholders to develop a pipeline of high value opportunities across the public sector which USG can address in the future.
