Crynodeb

Lancaster Medical School (LMS) seeks to appoint a GP Clinical Teaching Fellow to join the growing Primary Care Academic Team (PCAT) to meet the need of our expanding medical school. The appointee will be clinically qualified and currently practising as a general practitioner.

Two 0.2FTE posts, one day-a-week on Thursdays - indefinite role.

We have a well-established Primary Care Academic Team at LMS. The MBChB course benefits from significant input from GP teachers facilitating small group teaching throughout the undergraduate course. These are a hugely positive influence and have contributed to us being high in the national metrics for proportion of graduates choosing general practice as a career, and importantly, working locally in the NHS.

We are looking for GPs who have an enthusiastic approach that can inspire our students and who will fit into the existing team. These roles are enormously rewarding and can complement and invigorate GP clinical work.

The PCAT department is led by the Directors and comprises a supportive leadership team of GP Senior Clinical Lecturers, together with a team of permanent GP-Clinical Teaching Fellows and sessional GP Tutors, supported administratively by a committed professional services team.

You will be involved in delivering small group teaching to our undergraduate medical students and be involved in the teaching and assessment processes and full scholarly activity of our thriving Medical School. They will work in collaboration with the other GP Clinical Teaching Fellows, Senior Academic GPs, academic and professional services staff in Lancaster Medical School, GP practices, local community groups and organisations to support and deliver primary care orientated courses for medical students.

GPs who have experience of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and are interested in getting involved to teach and develop our medical course at Lancaster, are welcome to apply.

The Faculty provides an environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

Lancaster Medical School is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and is therefore committed to increasing representation of staff from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds across all roles and at all levels. We particularly welcome applications for this role from people from these backgrounds.

Applications should be submitted along with a CV and covering letter.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Kate Stonehouse, Deputy Director of Primary Care Academic Teaching k.l.stonehouse1@lancaster.ac.uk
