KEY DUTIES To be able to provide care and emotional support to patients and their relatives who are planned admissions for surgical procedures. To manage a template of patient caseload in the holistic pre-operative assessment setting, and to recognize and organise individual patient care needs, and to be able to manage own workload and prioritise care. To ensure the admission process of the patients, including clinical examination, obtaining results of investigations and any action required is comprehensive, concise and valid and the planned admission for surgery is within set protocols. To communicate clearly, effectively and politely with all levels of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, relatives and other departments. To undertake in Clinical audit To oversee Triage Practitioners caseload and assist with any training needs To work alongside Clinical Nurse Practitioners in the Formal setting To commence and participate in research/special projects as required/directed. To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of pre-operative assessment modernisation within the unit. To have responsibility for the security and maintenance of equipment belonging to the unit. CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body To report, investigate and record any untoward incidences/complaints. To display a consistently professional manner, and to be always caring and approachable. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES To ensure the admission process of the patients, including clinical examination, obtaining results of investigations and any action required is comprehensive, concise and valid and the planned admission for surgery is within set protocols. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES To participate in the teaching of student nurses and the in-service training of qualified nurses and health care assistants, and to participate in the induction of new starters. HEALTH & SAFETY All employees must comply with relevant sections of the Health and Safety at work.
