Crynodeb
The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment.
Within Field Operations, you will work with and lead teams to manage and maintain river and coastal defenses.
You will lead on site, ensuring everyone works efficiently and safely delivering routine maintenance on our assets. This physical role involves working outside in all weathers. We undertake a range of activities, from operating grass cutting machines, clearing debris screens, tree and bush clearance, weed clearance and small project work.
We act quickly when emergencies occur. You will take part in an out-of-hours standby roster leading teams to respond to flooding and pollution incidents. You will operate assets such as pumps, sluices and flood gates and take measures to reduce the impact of pollution incidents.
Incident response remains a top priority for the Environment Agency. You will be required to undertake the role of Field Operations Operator and Responder and make yourself available to respond to incidents. This may attract additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
The team is based in Gainsborough, 1 of 3 field operational depots in the North of the East Midlands area. We deliver a maintenance programme on flood defence assets, rivers and watercourse across the area.
We have a small projects team who builds, repairs and improves our flood defence assets.
The team responds to flooding and environmental incidents and provides advice and support to our colleagues in Asset Performance, Hydrometrics, Biodiversity and Environment Management.
Experience/skills required
You should demonstrate a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a worthy team player. Good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure during incidents are essential.
You must have a good understanding of site health and safety requirements and effective communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have previous leadership experience, a foundation of practical skills and a good level of environmental awareness.
Experience with iPads/computers and familiarity with mobile technology is essential.
