We have an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Occupational Therapist to join and our expert and friendly team of OTs, Driving Instructors and Administration staff on a permanent basis. You will be expected to provide professional line management responsibility for the clinical team and work alongside the Centre Manager in supporting the operational management of the service. You will also be expected to spend a proportion of your time carrying out assessment drives in-car (rear seat) with the driving instructor and you will make recommendations not only on fitness to drive but also, when appropriate, on adaptations.

The Centre is accredited by Driving Mobility and funded principally by the Department for Transport whilst being within the NHS framework.

Our specialist service primarily assesses medical fitness to drive of people who will have a range of medical conditions; developing a working knowledge and understanding of the DVLA standards of medical fitness to drive is an essential and integral part of the role. We also assist in enabling passengers and their carers to find suitable solutions to their needs.

You will work in Derby but will be expected to support assessment activity at one of our outreach services - currently in Stoke and Newark. You must hold a valid driver’s licence as driving to these venues (approximately 3-4 times a month) is essential as part of the post holder's responsibilities.

· Work with Driving Mobility to ensure that working practises are aligned with the accreditation process.

· To take responsibility for the performance management of all clinical staff within the team.

· To work with the Centre Manager to take responsibility for dealing with informal complaint resolution and liaison with PALS

· To work with the Centre manager to ensure that Derby DrivAbility is a safe environment for both staff and clients

· To be responsible for maintaining own competence to practice, and to ensure the competency of the team.

· Identify and organise the delivery of appropriate clinical training, based on UHDB and Driving Mobility assessment standards

· To take clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients

· Lead, support, and provide guidance, clinical education and training to all grades of staff within the team

· To oversee the teams in-service training programmes

· To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Plan (PDP)

· To carry out audit and the measurement of outcomes to base clinical practice

· Support the Derby DrivAbility Centre manager with team development
