Crynodeb
You will work as a Senior Nurse Specialist , leading the day-to-day delivery of clinical care, as well as supporting the Nurse Consultant within the service to plan and deliver care within the National aHUS Service (which is a single-centre highly specialised service, commissioned by NHS England; https://www.atypicalhus.co.uk/).
You will be required to manage both paediatric and adult patients with complement mediated renal diseases.
You will be required to demonstrate sound judgement, good clinical acumen and robust decision-making when managing patients on treatment for atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS) and C3 glomerulopathy, as well as managing patients withdrawing from these therapies – this group requiring ongoing active clinical and biochemical monitoring for signs of relapse, which will be centrally monitored and co-ordinated from the service in Newcastle.
You will be responsible for co-ordinating re-initiation treatment for patients who are located across England and Scotland when appropriate to ensure timely treatment to protect kidney function.
You will engage with high-level, multi-agency working across different professional boundaries and NHS organisations to ensure patients with complement mediated renal disease (who are located all around England [within a shared care arrangement] and Scotland) receive high quality, safe and effective care.
Key stakeholders you will work with include: patients and families with complement mediated renal disease; NHS England; Consultants within the service; Consultants who share care for aHUS patients across England and Scotland; Pharmaceutical companies; Medical and Nursing teams within the Trust; Laboratory sciences (Genetics; Immunology, Haematology); University research departments; Nurses in senior leadership roles within the Trust; AHPs (nurses, pharmacists, high-cost pharmacists etc) internally and externally to the Trust – who form part of the MDT caring for patients with a complement mediated renal disease.
You will be passionate in delivering direct clinical care, as well as clinical leadership – and this will be evidenced by tangible outputs. Participation in clinical audit and ongoing service improvement will be a focus to further enhance the care of patients with complement mediated renal disease moving forwards.
