Applications are invited from suitably trained Neurosurgical Specialist Registrars who are interested in further specialist training in Complex Spinal Surgery, based at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, Department of Neurosurgery, London.

The Unit provides a multidisciplinary approach to the clinical problems presented by complex spinal disorders. The appointee would work as a Clinical Fellow (ST7 or Post CCT equivalent) with the Complex Spine Unit.

The post-holder would have the opportunity to work within a, busy spinal unit, with an interesting case-mix and a high-proportion of cases including Complex Spine reconstructive surgery, primary and metastatic spinal tumours, complex degenerative conditions, surgeries involving the cranio-cervical junction and minimally invasive spine surgery.

This post has become available at short notice due to promotion of the existing complex spinal fellows to Consultant position.

The successful applicant will be expected to start immediately, if possible.

Responsibilities of this post will include flexible coverage of Complex spinal surgery consultant firms, 3-4 out-patient clinics every week, operating theatres, pre-and post-operative management of spinal patients.
There will be allocated time to operating theatres 1-2 days per week. The appointee will have the opportunity to be involved in research projects during the attachment.

Successful applicant will also have access to the Queen square simulation centre resources and the opportunity to attend the Queen square Complex spine cadaver course.

Applicants should have completed general professional training, hold GMC registration, and have completed neurosurgical or orthopaedic training and/or in the process of completing training. Excellent interpersonal skills, high levels of consideration for patients and a commitment to clinical care are required.
