The Role
We are looking for an experienced socio-economics / subnational economic development specialist to play a leading role in the team, helping us to continue to grow and deliver impactful work of the highest technical quality across our growing portfolio of work, in the UK and internationally for clients in the public and private sectors. The role would be ideal for someone with experience preparing social and economic assessment, including in the context of the EIA process, of undertaking social infrastructure and open space (including play space) assessment, alongside having a strong understanding of the UK’s economic geography and government policy toward regional economic growth and devolution.

Note a more senior appointment at Technical Director level will be considered for exceptional candidates.
Skills and experience we are looking for:
• An undergraduate degree in a related discipline such as economics, geography, or the social sciences.
• Demonstrable experience providing economic development advice and analysis in a consultancy, government department, an NGO or in academia.
• Demonstrable experience preparing socio-economic, human population and community assessment, preferably in the context of the EIA process.
• A sound grasp of demographic, labour market and other socio-economic data sources and analysis techniques.
• Practical application of relevant UK technical guidance such as the HM Treasury Green Book and the Additionality Guide.
• Excellent communication and critical analysis skills with the ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
• Line management, mentoring experience and/or demonstrable ability to support more junior staff.
The following would be desirable:
• A postgraduate degree in a related discipline such as economics, geography, or the social sciences.
• Experience of presenting/appearing at examinations in public (EIPs).
• Experience of business development activities including competitive tendering processes as well as client interaction.
• International experience providing economic development advice and analysis.
• Experience in Health Impact Assessment, preferably in the context of the EIA or DCO process.
