The post is based within the Pathology departments at Pilgrim Hospital, and is working five days a week (Mon 16:00-20:00, Tuesday - 16:00-20:00, Wednesday - 16:00-20:00, Thursday 16:00-20:00, Friday 16:00-20:00). There is a requirement to participate in the Front of House rota for weekends on a pro rata basis. Main Responsibilities include: Receipt of specimens, sample identification and labelling including initial investigation of missing/lost or mislabelled samples. Initial preparation of samples for processing, including use of centrifuges where appropriate. Entry of patient & specimen data onto laboratory data systems. Preparation and distribution of EQA samples. Secondary preparation and processing of samples for referral to other laboratories. To assist with the processing of various diagnostic specimens under the supervision of a qualified BMS (with the exception of those requiring Cat 3 containment). Filing of laboratory reports from reference laboratories. The use of effective communication skills with Pathology staff and service users. Stock management, including the recording of consumable stocks as they are delivered into the laboratory, and advising appropriate personnel when stock levels are low. Desirable GCSE or O level equivalent in 3 subjects, including science.
