Arboricultural Officer (LBS-009) – Temporary Contract
Location: Southwark Council, 160 Tooley Street Pay Rate: £22.15 per hour Hours: 36 hours per week Start Date: 26th May 2025
Neway International is recruiting on behalf of Southwark Council for an Arboricultural Officer to join their Environment, Sustainability, and Leisure team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to the borough-wide arboricultural service and ensure high-quality tree management across parks, highways, and housing areas.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Manage Southwark Council’s tree stock, ensuring compliance with policies and best practices ✔ Oversee the in-house tree surgery unit, ensuring safety and work quality ✔ Conduct inspections of completed contract work and proactively monitor tree conditions ✔ Implement scheduled tree surveys across the borough on a three-year cycle ✔ Identify and manage tree pests and diseases, including Massaria and Oak Processionary Moth ✔ Issue and track work orders via the Confirm system for contractors ✔ Support budget management and oversee financial monitoring of contracts ✔ Provide expert arboricultural advice and engage in community consultations
Key Duties:
✔ Maintain and update the tree asset database, including mapping and work history ✔ Monitor contractor performance to ensure high-quality service delivery ✔ Investigate complaints, drive service improvements, and report on key findings ✔ Develop relationships with stakeholders, contractors, and community groups ✔ Contribute to policy development and collaborate with other boroughs on best practices ✔ Attend meetings to address concerns, consult on strategies, and enhance service delivery
