BACKGROUND TO THE POST
Warwickshire College University Centre runs a number of degree programmes across different centres. Some students require additional support due to a learning difficulty, disability or long-term medical or mental health condition, and the main purpose of the post is to support and mentor these students.
The role of the HE Study Coach is to help students recognise the barriers to learning created by their impairment, and support them in developing strategies to address these barriers. The post holder will support individual student’s academic progress and achievement through the development of new skills, such as time management, organisation, researching, academic writing and managing workload. This will be achieved through providing 1:1 mentoring and/or study skills support out of the classroom. There may also be a need to provide note taking support within lessons.
The person appointed will be required to use innovative, flexible and high quality learning methods and resources in order to support students effectively on their degree courses.
The role will involve working across different college sites in any given week, so the use of a motor vehicle is essential. There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks relating to recording student progress and supporting student retention and achievement.
This post reports directly to the HE Inclusion Co-ordinator.
