Crynodeb

A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We require a specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to join the Band 6 rotations at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) on one years’ fixed term contracts. The rotations are between stroke, neurorehabilitation, neurology, neuro-oncology and neurosurgery. Patients will have a wide range of acute, chronic and progressive speech, language and swallowing disorders. Candidates will ideally have post-graduate experience in adult neurology, rehabilitation, and dysphagia.

You will join a team of SLTs which has a well-established system for formal / informal support and clinical / professional supervision. The SLT service has a very high profile within the multidisciplinary range of services provided.

The post offers exceptional opportunities to use specialist clinical skills and contribute to the research and teaching programmes within this highly specialised patient population.

The Directorate is fully committed to research and development and actively supports and funds the continuous professional development of its staff.

The rotational post manages and prioritises a defined SLT caseload within NHNN in one or two of the following in- or out-patient services: neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, stroke, neurorehabilitation, aphasia, neurology, and movement disorders. They will be supported by lead speech and language therapists and work together with the rest of the adult SLT team.

The SLT works closely with colleagues across UCLH Trust. As such, the posts require people who demonstrate evidence-based practice within adult neurology and rehabilitation, sound clinical reasoning and decision-making in assessing and treating communication and swallowing disorders due to acquired and progressive neurological conditions, excellent communication and teaching skills, and effective team-working abilities.
