At Samuel Laycock School we are constantly striving to create the best learning opportunities for every pupil. We aim to provide a specialist, high quality, relevant and balanced education for pupils aged 11-16 who have moderate learning difficulties, autistic spectrum condition and severe learning difficulties. We also tailor the learning experiences for individual pupils’ social and emotional development and communication needs. Samuel Laycock is delighted to be part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT) having joined on 1st April 2022. The Trust is a growing family of schools catering for young people aged 4 to 19 with an EHCP currently in the local authorities of Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale. The Trustees and Governors are looking to appoint an energetic and highly motivated Curriculum Lead for English.
English at Samuel Laycock is delivered through a dynamic, relevant and engaging curriculum, designed to allow our pupils to develop their reading, writing and spoken communication skills. The curriculum also ensures pupils develop transferable skills such as independence, confidence and resilience. English lessons seek to encourage a love of reading and to teach pupils to speak and write fluently. At KS4 pupils follow the Edexcel syllabuses for Entry Level and Functional Skills accreditation. Our aim is to ensure that all our pupils engage in a vibrant curriculum offer.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate sound subject knowledge, being up to date with English pedagogy and research. Applicants should be able to report data and progress to SLT as well as promote English across the school.
We are looking to appoint someone with a relentless commitment to pupil progress, and the ability to ensure subject assessment and progress reporting is completed in a timely manner.
Due to the complex nature of our pupils, an understanding of the needs of pupils with SEND and the barriers to learning these pupils face is essential.
We would like to invite applications from passionate and committed practitioners who have:
- Experience of working with children and young people with SEND to overcome barriers to learning.
- High expectations of pupils and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that each one can achieve their full educational potential
- Experience of assessment practice and the use of data and pupil progress tracking to ensure that all learners achieve.
- A track record of outstanding teaching of English
- The ability to build positive relationships with learners, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
- A commitment to working effectively with all members of the Samuel Laycock team.
This post will be based at Samuel Laycock School in Ashton Under Lyne, however, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group if required.
