Band 6 – Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist: ASC Diagnostic Service and Schools Service

We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work across the CHAND multidisciplinary autism diagnostic service and the Schools service.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist with specialist skills and knowledge in paediatrics to join our team. This role is a split post that will involve working as part of the multidisciplinary team within the CHAND autism diagnostic service and as part of the Speech and Language Schools Service.

In the CHAND Service, you will work with other members of the MDT to assess a range of children, referred for autism diagnostic assessments,undertaking ADOS assessments (training will be provided) and contributing to the diagnostic discussion.

Within the Schools Service you will hold a caseload and responsibility for a number of schools where you will provide specialist assessment, intervention and advice for children and young people who present with a variety of speech language and communication needs- including ASC resource provisions and special schools.

To work within the CHAND autism diagnostic service as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide highly specialist autism assessment to contribute to and inform the diagnostic process.

To deliver parent workshops, as part of the CHAND diagnostic team, to support parent understanding pre and post diagnosis.

To work in a range of Schools settings including ASC resource provision and special schoolsto provide specialistassessment, and to develop and implement specialist programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs.

To manage a large and complex caseload of children with diverse communication difficulties within the school setting. There will be a particular emphasis on training and liaison with school staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as well as with families.

To provide a service which takes account of the needs of clients from a range of ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

1. To undertake and contribute to diagnostic assessments within the CHAND autism diagnostic service working as part of the multidisciplinary team.
2. To provide a specialist level of assessment, therapy and recommendations to a range of children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties within the school setting and specialist ASC school setting. This includes planning, implementing and evaluating therapy to early years, . and secondary school-aged children, writing EHCP advice and reports for annual review for children with a range of speech/language/communication difficulties.
3. To work jointly with more senior colleagues and other professionals to take account of the specific communication needs of these children and plan therapy accordingly
4. To independently manage a large and complex caseload of children with diverse communication difficulties in mainstream schools, with a particular emphasis on liaison with staff for information and to train staff in delivering therapy suggestions.
5. To co-ordinate and take a lead in the joint planning and working including, setting up therapy groups where appropriate and to support more junior colleagues through joint working.
6. To liaise with relevant professional staff in Health, Education and Social Services.
7. To take part in supervising staff and students
