Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Clinical Fellow to join our Gastroenterology team on a full-time basis.

The successful applicant will be required to work across all three hospital sites within the Trust: Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, and St Albans City Hospital.

This role includes ongoing responsibility for the care of both elective and non-elective patients, along with the associated administrative duties involved in delivering high-quality patient care.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will collaborate closely with Consultants, Resident Doctors, Nursing staff, and Administrative and Management teams to provide comprehensive care. In addition, active participation in Clinical Governance meetings and involvement in departmental audits will be expected.

This is a full-time post with no on-call commitment. However, there are regular opportunities to participate in out-of-hours on-call work for additional remuneration, if desired. The role will primarily focus on the assessment and management of patients with upper gastrointestinal (GI) complaints.

The service aims of this post include:
• Providing a local service for the earlier detection of oesophageal carcinoma through the delivery of the Capsule Sponge Test service.
• Improving access to, and the assessment of, patients referred via the suspected upper GI cancer two-week wait pathway.
• Training in, and provision of, upper GI endoscopy (OGD) lists.
• Providing outpatient clinics.
• Training in, and provision of, PH studies and manometry services.

The post holder will be timetabled for 2.5 outpatient clinics per week, along with Capsule Sponge Test telephone clinics and an endoscopy session. These clinics will include patients referred via the suspected upper GI cancer two-week wait pathway, as well as a mix of general gastroenterology cases.

There will be opportunities to attend 1–2 OGD training lists per week, with the potential to run independent OGD sessions once fully signed off. Similarly, the post holder will be able to attend training for PH studies and manometry, and lead independent sessions once fully signed off.

In addition, the post holder will be involved in reviewing general gastroenterology specialist referrals alongside other registrars and consultants, and will also provide cover for the gastroenterology inpatient ward.

With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.

We are building on the success of our award-winning virtual hospital and re-imagining models of care, working ever more closely with partners and making the most of advances in digital healthcare.
