Summary

Have you ever thought you could be a Detective Constable?

With a starting salary of £29,907 plus a large variety of benefits, staff associations and generous pension scheme, there may never have been a better time to join. Interested? Apply today!

If you question everything, never accepting things the way they are this could be the role for you.

As a detective in Cleveland, you’re the most critical support for victims of crime. We are looking for talented individuals to step up to protect society’s most vulnerable.

As a detective you’ll deal with serious and complex investigations, uncovering the truth and analysing evidence on cases. This could range from undertaking search warrants and making arrests to pursuing a case through the courts. At times it can be a challenging role, but also incredibly rewarding. You’ll strive to achieve the right outcome for victims and their families.

Training to be a Detective Constable will be through the Detective Pathway on one of the following routes:

Police constable entry programme (PCEP)

The PCEP is a new entry programme that does not require you to study for a university qualification during probation. This route normally takes two years, after which, if you successfully complete probation, you become a PC. As set out in Police Regulation 10 (opens an external website in the same tab), you will need a level 3 (opens an external website in the same tab) qualification to join (two A-levels or the equivalent) or significant and equivalent work experience.

All Detective pathway students are required to pass the National Investigators’ Exam (NIE) and achieve full Professionalising Investigation Programme Stage 2 (PIP2) accreditation after completion of probation period if not achieved during the probationary period.

This does not affect ratification of PC status as per the Police Regulations by successfully completing PCEP programme. PIP 2 Accreditation is required in addition to the PCEP programme to successfully complete the DC pathway and become a detective.

Am I eligible?

The people of Cleveland deserve an excellent service, so we are looking for the best people to join us and demonstrate our values. But there’s some formal stuff you’ll need to have too, and it’s really important to make sure you meet the eligibility criteria for which ever route you apply for.
