This is a high-profile and critical portfolio, with a key role to play in progressing many cross-cutting Department for Business and Trade (DBT) priorities.
The role sits within the wider Employee Experience and Culture (EEC) portfolio, working closely with colleagues in corporate services and across the wider organisation.
The department is going through transformation- from responding to the need to make the Civil Service more efficient to restructuring the way we do things so that we have the right people in the right places, we are going through a lot of change to fulfil our potential. This leadership role will be critical to this. To be successful we need to make sure we bring our Trade Unions and our staff along with us. We need to have a culture that supports our ambition, and we need to make sure our people work in places and environments that support them and their own growth.
This role will provide a great opportunity to get involved in cross-cutting and innovative work areas. This broad portfolio will give you the opportunity to work at scale and with complexity; you will need to be strategic and have confidence in your own expertise, as you balance the broader Departmental priorities against the needs of our stakeholders.
You will be an inclusive and engaging leader, supporting, developing and directing your team to deliver excellent results for the business through complexity, ambiguity and change.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building partnerships with our recognised Trade Unions and supporting DBTs ambitious change agenda, ensuring we are aligned with the wider Civil Service Industrial Relations approach.
- Providing expert advice on consultation and Industrial Relations strategies for the department. Advising and influencing at all levels including ministerial, ensuring DBT meets its legislative requirements and mitigating risks.
- Oversee the people principles for the departments Place Strategy, including Places for Growth programme. Working with and through others across the People and Place function to support development of tailored interventions, aligned with our People Strategy.
- Lead work on evolving DBT’s culture to support the department in navigating change so we continue to offer a great place to work that is fit for the future. Ensuring our international workforce are supported to be innovative and efficient and aligned to the Government growth agenda, providing maximum value for the people of the UK
- Deliver transformation with and through colleagues, demonstrating inspirational leadership and people management skills. Maintaining the leadership of an inclusive, high-performing and professional HR team.
Line Management Responsibility: leading a team of 4 – 3 G7s and 1 HEO.
