As a Director this role will be responsible and accountable as follows: In conjunction with the Chief Executive or relevant Chief Officer responsible for contributing to organisation wide strategy with decision-making and budget responsibility for their area. Regular attendee at either Board of Trustee or St Helena trading company meetings. Member of Full SLT and either Clinical or Commercial SLT. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS All staff and volunteers at St Helena Medical Director and Associate Director for St Helena Care Services Ltd Counterparts in other healthcare settings Service users & supporters Health and care system partners Care Quality Commission KEY PRIORITIES Lead the delivery of hospice care and bereavement support services that deliver the organisations charitable and strategic objectives. Provide advice to the Chief Executive, Chief Clinical Officer, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Trustees on operational and quality matters relating to care services. Ensure quality and excellent user experience are at the heart of all St Helena care services. Embed tackling inequalities and overcoming barriers in accessing care in all care services. Support the development of integrated frailty, palliative care, and end of life care services with health and care system partners. Lead on The Hospice, Hospice in the Home, counselling and emotional support including bereavement, and other related care services. Effective liaison with estates and facilities teams to support safe and effective care delivery. Lead on all aspects of clinical governance and ensure all services are fully compliant with Care Quality Commission regulations and expectations. Keep services under regular review to ensure maximum value within available resources and to embed a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure effective and coordinated working across the full range of care services in the St Helena group along with the Medical Director and Associate Director for St Helena Care Services Ltd Deliver agreed activity and capacity targets. Manage the development and delivery of budgets, staffing, and business plans for hospice care and bereavement support services. Be an engaged and active participant in the Senior Leadership Team in relation to corporate leadership and the wider life and values of the organisation. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic To work with the Chief Clinical Officer, Senior Leadership Team and departmental managers to prepare business and workforce plans for annual and long-term multiyear planning. To manage and regularly update the charitys clinical and care standard operating policies and procedures. To work in partnerships with local and regional health and care partners. To maximise the value, impact and reach of St Helena care services within available resources. To maintain a reputation for excellence in all aspects of care delivery and full regulatory compliance. Corporate To be an engaged and active member of the Clinical and the Wider Senior Leadership Team and work cooperatively with colleagues to roll out group and charity-wide initiatives. To positively and professionally represent the organisation, Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team internally and externally as required acting in the best interests of the charity. To forge positive working relationships with peers in partner organisations and with key stakeholders. To prepare and present papers to the Board and committees as necessary Operational Be prepared to act as, or work supportively with the Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs. Be prepared to act as, or work supportively with the Caldicott Guardian working with the DPO to ensure compliance with all data protection and information governance legislation. To ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Act as Registered Manager for St Helena charitable services and to act as Designated Individual for CQC purposes. Work with other St Helena registered managers to maintain high collective standards and share learning. To support the submission of timely and accurate statutory returns to all relevant bodies. To negotiate, monitor and manage agreements with health and care commissioners, and partner organisations. To maintain good relationships with funders of care services and ensure all relevant conditions of funding are met. To represent the charity within the health and care system, and act as a system leader working toward integrated care services for frailty, palliative and end of life care services across the St Helena geography. To provide clinical leadership and support to capital projects and significant business developments. To deliver agreed activity and capacity targets. To develop effective marketing and communications strategies for hospice care services in conjunction with the Marketing Team. To identify, develop, and deliver new care service opportunities and ventures. Managerial To ensure the recruitment and effective performance management of staff, including regular supervision, coaching, appraisal, training, and development in line with agreed policies. To work within the charitys operational framework of delegated authorities, financial management and decision making. Develop clinical leadership across hospice care services. Ensure all clinical staff have access to regular clinical supervision, and also to coaching and/or mentoring where appropriate. Ensure the development of comprehensive workforce plans and development pathways for all clinical teams and competencies. Ensure there is an effective plan in place to reduce inequalities in outcomes and overcome barriers in accessing care. General To promote and support the achievement of the charitys mission, goals and values as set out in the strategic guidelines. To act as a positive ambassador for the charity at all times. To maintain a high standard of probity in professional, human resource and financial matters, maintaining good relations with colleagues and external partners and to act in accordance with the charitys code of conduct. To uphold and promote equality and diversity and the value of lived experience. To have due regard to safeguarding and health and safety issues.
