The Role

We are looking to appoint an experienced Information Governance professional to join Tameside Council’s Information Governance Service.

The job role covers the full range of duties within the IG service; however, the successful applicant will primarily focus on supporting the work of the Data Protection and IG Compliance Manager. The role will involve investigating data security incidents, providing a comprehensive advice function to other services, including supporting with governance processes and DPIAs, and ensuring compliance with the Information Governance Framework and good data protection practice.

Ideally, we would like an experienced Information Governance Officer (or equivalent) who has strong experience of providing support and advice on Data Protection and IG compliance to operational and strategic stakeholders across the business.

The Information Governance service has recently undergone a service review and this is an excellent opportunity to develop into the role and help shape the service, with the ability to bring new ideas and innovation, whilst ensuring delivery of a fast paced supporting and enabling service to the wider Council and partners.

Not only will you be providing the service for Tameside Council, but you will also be providing Information Governance support to the Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) the National Anti-Fraud Network (NAFN) and collaborating on projects involving other Greater Manchester Local Authorities and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). This is an excellent opportunity to learn about other organisations and hosted services, which can only help your own development into an excellent Information Governance Officer.

About You

You will be an experienced Data Protection/Information Governance professional ideally with Public Sector experience.

You will also hold a practitioner Certificate in Data Protection/Information Governance (or equivalent) or be willing to complete a relevant certification (or equivalent qualification) as part of development in the role.

We are looking for an IG professional who has proven experience and is highly motivated to deliver a best-in-class Information Governance service.

You will have good analytical and problem-solving skills, strong technical knowledge, organisational skills and an ability to plan and deliver timely outcomes whilst dealing with multiple enquiries and tasks, excellent written and verbal communication skills, good numerical skills and ability to conduct data analysis, experience preparing and delivering training and be capable of building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
