Are you an experienced data analyst who is passionate about creating, maintaining, manipulating, and answering questions with data? If you are, then this exciting role within the Natural Capital and Ecosystems Assessment (NCEA) programme is not to be missed.
As part of this programme we are designing, implementing and analysing the data from new monitoring networks to allow us to better assess and understand the state of our Estuarine and Coastal water environment at a national scale.
The role will focus on building automated processes that turn monitoring data into useable national scale assessments of the environment. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your data management expertise and develop our approach for NCEA outputs and products.
Key tasks may include:
• Building a suite of analytical data tools that receive and process monitoring, ecological and habitat data, turning it into useable national scale assessments on the state of the English estuary and coastal water environment.
• Building data management solutions to support the new coastal monitoring networks
• Ensuring tools and processes can be handed over to other users by building guidance, support, and automated features.
• Providing data skills training and support to colleagues
The team
The role sits within the Coastal and Estuarine Assessment (CEA) Team, within National Monitoring Fish & Ecology. CEA provides a complete design, advice and assessment technical service supporting coastal and estuarine ecological outcomes. The team delivers operational, scientific and technical support to local and national teams, and external national partners.
The role will work closely with NCEA Data, Analysis and Digital Team which improves data and reporting tasks across the EA’s wider environmental monitoring business
Experience/skills required
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate you:
• Enjoy working with data and matching the needs of the customer to the analysis you do
• Have the ability to work well as part of a dispersed team
• Deliver your work with a focus on quality and attention to detail
• Are able to use tools to make your work more efficient
• Have experience developing automated data integration processes in an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) application such as SAFE FME.
• Have experience of working with spatial data
• Have experience of working with programmes such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, Power BI, ‘R’, SQL and Python (highly preferable to have experience with some apps listed, but not essential for experience with all)
• Be familiar with Environment Agency monitoring data and systems (beneficial, but not essential)
