Are you a band 5 or current band 6 nurse who has an interest in diabetes and would like to expand your knowledge and skills in diabetes management? If so the diabetes service in North Lancashire have a role for you in their team.
The diabetes service is cross bay and made up of three small teams of consultants, specialist nurses and dieticians.
This vacancy is a rare opportunity, the successful candidate will be based predominately in the North Lancashire area, working within the inpatient, community clinic setting with some opportunity to cross bay cover.

The role would enable the successful candidate to undertake training in specialist areas such as subcutaneous insulin pumps and antenatal diabetes care.

This exciting opportunity is for a dedicated and motivated nurse to develop their skills and knowledge in Diabetes Nursing, working hours are predominately 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday but we may require some flexibility to meet the service need and occasional Bank Holiday working.
The role requires excellent communication skills as you will undertake complex nursing assessments and develop and deliver programmes of care with patients, families, carers and ward staff.
Diabetes Specialist Nurses work closely with patients, families and health professionals from all disciplinaries to prevent hospital admission, facilitate hospital discharge and promote independence through education and self management of diabetes.
The role requires you to support in delivering, nursing education and post graduate medicine education.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
The main responsibilities of this role include:
• To work autonomously, with access to the Diabetes
Specialist Team, in providing evidence based and high
quality diabetes care and education
• To assess, plan, implement & evaluate individualised
programmes of evidence based care providing specialist
Diabetes advice to patients, carers/relatives, and the
multidisciplinary team.
• To contribute to the organisation and delivery of ongoing
education and training for other healthcare professionals.
In conjunction with the Diabetes Multidisciplinary team
assist in the development, implementation and adoption of
local diabetes care policies and guidelines.
• Take part in local and national research and audit.
