1. Responsibility for Patient Care (including monitoring, diagnostics + investigations) To work with children who are slow to acquire faecal and urinary incontinence Have a moderate degree of global delay Have a physical condition which hinders continence Work autonomously within continence clinics without supervision, accountable for own professional actions Have secondary enuresis or encopresis as a behavioural response to emotional difficulties Ensure that all patient records are completed and maintained in line with Trust policy, observing patient confidentiality at all times Provide specialist assessment, support and treatment for children aged 0 -19 years who have more complex continence needs Enhance quality of life for people with long term conditions Ensuring that people have a positive experience of care Understanding of child anatomy and physiology Clear understanding of bowel conditions and faecal impaction Use a varied array of skills to devise continence packages for children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, complex health care. Refer children and young people to other specialists and agencies as appropriate Refer to the Continence Lead if any issues require more specialist advice and intervention, thereby maintaining high service standards Deal with patient complaints in a positive and sensitive way in accordance with Trust policy Uphold a professional approach and maintain professional integrity at all times Practice competencies developed, upholding the NMC Code of Professional Conduct Be aware of Dudley Safeguarding/Child Protection policy and requirements Gather information to provide specialist advice to assist child protection investigations To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals To act as an advisor to primary health care staff on matters relating to the patients management and to provide clinical, professional advice. Promote the development of clinically effective care that is seamless between primary and secondary care settings. Demonstrate and utilise specialist skills and knowledge to provide innovative practice in paediatric continence To support the transition of young people from paediatric to adult care, liaising with the adult Urology and Gastroenterology team and in-reach to adult wards as appropriate, for young people in the process of transition 25. Deal expertly and confidently with distressing and emotional issues in the knowledge that other support services are available to assist To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality (insert) service. 26. Act as a role model of excellence in childrens continence care Provide professional advice, support and leadership to colleagues Attend, as appropriate, regional and national events to enable Black Country Partnership to be identified as a service provider of childrens continence best practice Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with disabilities, school nurses, health visitors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists Provide clinical advice in relation to home delivery service enquiries To liaise with continence service (continence products) Work with other services for peer support and good practice 33. Policy and Service Development Support the implementation of an integrated continence strategy in line with Department of Health guidance and National Service Framework for Children
