The Youth & Schoo Liaison Worker is responsible for the identification and registration of young carers and the completion of Young Carers Statements /Reviews to identify the unmet needs of carers within the Doon Valley area of East Ayrshire. The post holder will deliver information, advice and support in relation to carers rights in line with the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. Major Functions/Accountabilities:
1. To identify and support young carers aged from 5 to 25 years old
2. To carry out an initial assessment of the needs of the young carers via a Young Carers Statement to determine outcomes as per the carers (Scotland) Act 2016
3. To develop strong social media presence to promote and market this project and activities to ensure this service has a high public profile
4. To communicate this project through networking meetings and marketing events
5. To liaise with primary and secondary schools and deliver presentations to support and identify hidden young carers.
6. To find hard to reach young carers who are socially and/or financially excluded
7. To provide training, social and leisure activities and respite breaks to young carers
8. To support young carers transitioning from primary to secondary school
9. To work with the Next Steps employability team to support young carers aged 14 to 19, during their transition periods from secondary school to further education, training or employment
10. To organise group and 1:1 sessions for young carers
11. To ensure project targets and outcomes are met
12. To be available to support young carers on respite breaks out with East Ayrshire and including overnight stays
